6R80 Controller for Coyote Swap Applications
Coyote 5.0 engine swaps have blown up in recent years – from vintage cars and trucks and Fox body Mustangs, to wild projects like this Coyote swapped Porsche Cayman. With the popularity of these swaps comes new products and packages to help alleviate issues and introduce new possibilities for these swaps. It’s become more and more common to see the Overdrive transmission behind Coyote and 5.4/5.8 GT500 swapped engine combinations, likely due to the fact that these automatic transmissions are great for daily driving and drag racing applications.
Early on, the only way to make this combination work was to splice and hack up of the factory harness. Not everyone feels good doing that, and for good reason. FRPP promised us a version of their control pack for the 2015 and newer based engine/transmission combo but they won’t be offering anything for the 11-14 based combo. PBH Performance has developed a plug and play 6R80 Control Pack (our Gen 1 Kit) specifically to meet that demand, which includes a 6R80 body harness that will allow any project car using a 2011-14 Coyote, Roadrunner, or GT500 engine to use the 6R80 automatic transmission.
Our Gen 1 kit uses a factory PCM with a custom flash to control both engine and transmission in one module, no need for any secondary controllers that might have some limitations. Through extensive testing we found that we just needed a harness that allowed communication between the trans, engine, and PCM to make it all work, just like factory. So with the stock 13/14 PCM, a fuse panel, and harness we can now run both the engine and the transmission with one computer just like factory. You will be able to enjoy all the features and benefits of an automatic GT with the factory 6R80 6-speed automatic. No horsepower limits, no extra tuning to figure out, no clunky fuse boxes; just OEM compatibility and performance.
